Wabi-Sabi Vase „Kuro-Iwa“- Schwarzer Fels

Handcrafted Wabi-Sabi Vase „Kuro-Iwa“ – Black Rock
The handmade Wabi-Sabi vase “Kuro-Iwa” (Black Rock) stands like a broken block of stone: full-bodied, heavy, with an uneven, torn rim. Shaped in our studio, WabiSui ArtLab on the High Rhine, it is a one-of-a-kind piece in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi – imperfect, earthbound, marked by the firing.
The body is our own clay blend with Swiss clay. Inside and out sits a complex, multi-layered glaze of kiln ash, Rhine sand and Rhine mussel – all formulated in-house. Ash, sand and shells were gathered and prepared around the studio, along and in the Rhine. In changing light the surface shifts from earthy brown to mossy black, from sandy cloud to lichen-like fields. Lean matte zones meet a quiet glaze flow and fine, almost silvery specks. Inside opens a dark cavity with cyan, lava-like lakes.
“Kuro-Iwa” holds heavy arrangements and single branches; it also stands as sculpture without flowers. At about 2.8 kg it sits calm and monumental.
